Freezer Beef FAQ's

What is freezer beef?

Freezer beef is sold in bulk directly from the farmer. Unlike beef sold in the store, the beef you purchase is from one cow and one farmer. While there is a large upfront payment, it is more cost effective to buy in bulk and saves money in the long run. Your purchase includes a variety of cuts (roasts, steaks, ground beef, ribs). You decide how you want your portion of cow processed by contacting the butcher. Click here to see the cut list.

How much meat do you get from a cow?

A whole cow (avg 550 lbs)=
100 steaks
30 roasts
125 lbs ground beef
36 total ribs
2 briskets
Organ meats

Note: This is an estimate. The actual amount depends upon the weight of the cow and which cuts are selected.
A half cow (avg 300 lbs)=
50 steaks
15 roasts
70 lbs ground beef
18 total ribs
1 brisket
Organ meats

Note: This is an estimate. The actual amount depends upon the weight of the cow and which cuts are selected.
A quarter cow (avg 150 lbs)
25 steaks
8 roasts
35 lbs ground beef
9 total ribs
1/2 brisket
Organ meats

Note: This is an estimate. The actual amount depends upon the weight of the cow and which cuts are selected.

How is price calculated?

The total cost= (hanging weight x $6) + (hanging weight x processing fee) + $100 for beef slaughter

For example... for half a cow that weighs 250 lbs, the price would be...
(250 x 6) + (250 x .90) + 100 = $1825

How does it work?

1. Order your freezer beef now by contacting Conard at [email protected]. Provide your name, phone number, address, and if you would like a whole, half or quarter cow.
2. In the fall, you will be contacted by the butcher. The butcher will go over this cut list with you to determine how you would like your portion processed.
3. You will receive a bill in the mail for the beef and the processing fee.
4. Once your beef has been processed, you will pick it up directly from the butcher.
5. Enjoy those beautiful grass fed beef cuts all year long!

What is the hanging weight?

Hanging weight is the weight of a beef carcass after the hide, head and other parts have been removed. It includes the bones, fat and offal. This weight is used to calculate the total cost of the cow.

How long will freezer beef last?

When properly stored in a freezer, the beef will last 1-2 years.
